Autumn 2006 Season's Review

Bio Hazard – It was a rough season for the Bio Hazard who lost the services of last season’s MVP, Emma Gray and Amanda Harris early on.  Down to five players for the last half of the season a lot of the offence was down to Chris Theophilos who led the team in points and Brooke Marshall with career best stats. Captain, Christine Schiller was reliable on defence but ultimately it was goalie, Emilia Lazzarotto who shouldered a lot of responsibility facing 37.2 shots per game and remarkably keeping a GAA of 6.8.

High Rollers – After two successive seasons going nearly untouched the High Rollers faced a few problems this season and were looking down the barrel when they lost their first three games. They put together a four games winning streak but could only manage one win in their last five games without injured captain, Mel Brogan. Tania Crawley took the lead with Brogan sidelined and led the team in points while youngsters Jess Raymond and Michelle McCrory continued their rapid improvement.

Phoenix – With Beck Collie and Jo Schoof once again firing, the Phoenix had a successful campaign, which saw them finish second after the regular season. Collie just missed out on that elusive scoring title but the Phoenix were a difficult team to match up on depth wise with their fab four state players in Collie, Schoof, Mel Bauer and Silvia Luis. Bauer put up a remarkable 2 goals and 15 assists and had her best season yet with offensive and defensive output.

Dragons – Perennial cellar dwellers, the Dragons finally had their time to shine after acquiring Martha Zelazny pre-season. Zelazny won the highest point scorer award and lifted everyone around her. Danni Hoskin and Kylie Sketchley continued their good form of last season and Kate Stephenson made a successful jump from Division 2 to Division 1 with nine points. Along with contributions from the under-rated Chloe Vasilades and Kirsty Wright and of course, the stellar goaltending from Jenece Wheeler the Dragons finished on top of the ladder by three games.
